What Is Vibe Coding?
Vibe coding means describing what you want to build in ordinary language, and letting AI write, run, and refine the actual code — no programming knowledge required. You describe the "vibe" of what you're building; the AI handles the syntax. This is one of the most significant shifts in who gets to build software: for the first time, the barrier to creating a real, working website or app is an idea and the ability to describe it clearly — not years of learning to code.

Vibe coding tools are extraordinary for building working prototypes, MVPs, personal projects, and small business tools fast. They are not yet a full replacement for professional software engineering on large, complex, or highly regulated systems. Know which one you're building, and pick your ambition accordingly.

Your First Project
Step 1 — Pick something small and real
Your first project should solve a real, specific problem you actually have — not an ambitious startup idea. Good first projects: a personal portfolio site, a simple booking form, a habit tracker, a small tool for a club or side hustle you already run.

Step 3 — Look at what it builds, then iterate
Your first prompt will get you roughly 70–80% of the way there. This is normal, not a failure. The real skill in vibe coding is the back-and-forth refinement, not the first prompt.
• Be specific in follow-up requests: "Make the button in the header bigger and change it to blue" works far better than "improve the design."
• Fix one issue at a time. Asking for five changes in one message makes it harder for the AI to get all five right.
• If something breaks, describe exactly what you did and what happened, rather than just "it's not working."
Step 4 — Test it like a real user
Click every button. Try to break it. Use it on your phone, not just your laptop. Ask a friend who wasn't involved in building it to try using it without you explaining anything first — where they get confused is exactly where to improve it.
Step 5 — Publish it
Most AI app builders include one-click publishing/hosting. Once live, you have a real, working, shareable product — built entirely through conversation.
PROMPTING TIPSTips Specific to Vibe Coding
• Describe the USER and their GOAL, not just the feature. "A contact form" is vague. "A contact form so potential clients can request a quote, with fields for name, email, project type, and budget range" gives the AI what it actually needs.
• Reference things you like. "Like Notion's clean sidebar" or "similar to how Airbnb shows search filters" communicates a lot in a few words.
• Build in layers. Get the core function working first, then ask for styling, then extra features.
• Keep a running note of what you asked for and what worked — you'll start recognising your own effective patterns quickly.
